Our In-patient Unit provides specialist palliative respite and end of life care.
In-line with your wishes, and upon referral from your GP, Hospital Consultant or Specialist Nurse, you may be admitted to our IPU for respite, palliative or end of life care. You may be brought in from home, or straight from hospital.
Care on our IPU is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of highly experienced doctors, registered nurses, occupational therapists, complementary therapists, counsellors, social workers, clinical psychologists, volunteers, healthcare assistants and a chaplain.

The professionals involved in your care meet on a weekly basis, this is followed by a ward round which is used to help plan your time with us. It is important that you are at the centre of all that we do, so you are encouraged to have honest discussions with the team and work with them to plan for your future care.
The people who are important to you are also invited to attend the ward round as we believe it is important that they are welcomed, listened to and made to feel 'part of the team'.
Our team will also liaise with your GP and District Nurse to ensure that your needs can be met in the community following discharge.
Patients and their families rightly expect to be cared for in a safe environment, this is something we pride ourselves on at Hospice Isle of Man.
In 2017 our IPU had a lower rate of patient falls when compared with both other hospices our size and when compared to all hospices in the UK.
We believe this is a result of our commitment to continually improve clinical quality and safety, the careful assessments carried out by our staff as patients are admitted and the high standard of care provided throughout a patient's stay.
To make your stay as comfortable as possible, we recommend bringing the following:

Breakfast, lunch, tea and supper are all provided and all food is lovingly prepared in our kitchens by our wonderful catering team. You can select choices on the menu or request an alternative meal if you prefer. Meals can also be provided for two close family members, friends or carers.
Lunch is served between 12.30-1.30pm and tea is served between 5.00-6.00pm. During meal times our clinical staff prefer not to disturb you with any routine observations as part of our protected mealtime initiative but our nurses, volunteers and health care assistants are on hand to assist if you need them.
Visitors can access refreshments in the Braddan Lounge, for something more substantial Elaine's Coffee Shop is open Monday-Friday and serves a selection of hot and cold food, snacks and drinks can also be purchased from our vending machine.
